A bit about VRSC
The original Villa Rica Saddle Club was founded by Freddie Mae & Ray Tyson. The Tyson family and several other founding members formed the club for the youth of the area. The club was established in hope to increase the local youth's interest in horses and related activities. The horse shows at that time were hosted at the Tyson Arena. The Tyson Family allowed the Villa Rica Saddle Club to use their land for the Saddle Club activities until the late 1990's. There were horse shows as well as trail rides. The original Dog River Ride was started by the Villa Rica Saddle Club. The first year it started in Villa Rica and ended in Douglasville. The following year it started in Douglasville and ended in Villa Rica and so it went on like this for years. In the early 1980's it turned into the Chatsworth Wagon Train ride. They rode to Chatsworth, Ga to the week long horse shows and other activities.
The Villa Rica Saddle Club was disbanded for a few years, so we are still in the process of rebuilding the club. The first two seasons the shows were located at Randy Sims Arena in Roopville, Ga. This year the shows were relocated to Possum Snout Arena in Tallapoosa, GA. Over the last few years since the club has been up and running again we have had great turn outs. We are once again a family orientated saddle club for which it was originally intended.
